Cottage Guests Scarf up Doggie Gifts |
What better way to grab the attention of dog-lovers than by having your message worn by a cute little (or big) pooch? When Bob Steenrod, president of Billmae Cottage Guest Suites in the Victorian seaside town of Cape May, NJ, wanted to demonstrate that his establishment was dog-friendly, he figured that doggie scarves were the perfect promotion.
“Guests put them on their dogs, and as they walk around town, people say, ‘Oh, I love your dog,’ ” Steenrod says. “Then they ask, ‘Where are you staying?’ and it’s right there on the dog.” The scarves feature an imprint of a tail- wagging pup, along with the copy, “I stay at dog-friendly Billmae.” Guests can choose from two sizes to ensure a good fit for their pets.
| | | Given the current craze for canine couture, it’s no surprise that the scarves have gone over well – and it looks like this fashion trend is one that’ll last more than one season. “We get a lot of repeat business,” Steenrod says, “and when they come back for their next visit, they make sure to bring their scarves.”
Billmae guests have also received other imprinted items, including pens, mugs, beach totes, tees and sweatshirts | – and Steenrod has found other ways to spread to his message with promo products. “We gave one of the restaurants in town six mugs to use serving their coffee,” he says. “Again, people are looking at that coffee mug and saying, ‘Hey, it says Billmae Cottage on it.’ |
